The salt marshes are a real surprise in every season and at every moment of the day. They offer you a mosaic of shapes and colours.
The marshes are divided into two areas :
- The Guérande salt marshes, around the Traict du Croisic, covering 1,650 hectares, in the communes of Batz-sur-Mer, Guérande and La Turballe.
- The Mès salt marshes, beyond the Guérande hillside, cover 350 hectares in the communes of Mesquer-Quimiac, Saint-Molf and Assérac. This area is supplied with water by the Traict de Mesquer.

A little history… Thanks to the first written testimonies, we know that the technique of exploitation of the marshes predates the 9th century. The last saltworks in the basin were built around 1800. But from the beginning of the 19th century, a progressive abandonment is felt in front of the competition.
Today, production is low, but the producers focus on providing a high quality culinary salt.
