On the day of the start, thousands of people gather in the seaside resort to make sure they don’t miss any of the action. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend a few days relaxing in the Vend\u00e9e<\/strong>. <\/p>

A single-handed round-the-world yacht race<\/h2>

What is the Vend\u00e9e Globe? It’s a breathtaking solo sailing race around the world. What makes this competition unique is that it allows no stopovers and no assistance. Since 1989, the race has been held every four years in Les Sables-d’Olonne, which is the start and finish town. <\/p>

The racers embark on a round-the-world voyage, starting in Les Sables-d’Olonne and heading south across the Atlantic Ocean. Then they cross the Furious Fifties, a particularly difficult region for even the most experienced sailors. Finally, the participants head back up the Atlantic, battling for ultimate victory. <\/p>
