The salt marshes, a mosaic of colors<\/strong><\/h2>

The salt marshes are a real surprise in every season and at every time of day.\nThey offer a mosaic of shapes and colors. <\/p>

The marshes are divided into two zones:<\/p>

  • The Gu\u00e9rande salt marshes around the Traict du Croisic, covering 1,650 hectares in the communes of Batz-sur-Mer, Gu\u00e9rande and La Turballe.\n<\/li>
  • The M\u00e8s salt marshes, beyond the Gu\u00e9rande hillside, cover 350 hectares in the communes of Mesquer-Quimiac, Saint-Molf and Ass\u00e9rac.\nThe area is supplied with water by the Traict de Mesquer. \n<\/li><\/ul>

    The salt marshes<\/strong> of Gu\u00e9rande have been shaped by the hand of man for centuries. The 2,000 hectares have been awarded the “Site Remarquable du Go\u00fbt” label, and you can visit this unique site with a guide or on your own. Bring binoculars, and you’ll be able to observe a wide variety of local birds.<\/p><\/div>

    A little history… Thanks to the first written accounts, we know that the technique of exploiting the marshes predates the 9th century.\nThe last saltworks in the basin were built around 1800, but from the early 19th century onwards, the industry was gradually abandoned in the face of competition.
